In today’s online world, contractors can search for used sweepers with a click of a button. And while locating the exact sweeper you want may not be a very time-consuming anymore, you still need to spend some time carefully examining the company you’re buying it from. Asking the right questions will make sure you’re doing business with a used equipment seller that you can trust and will help you get a better sense of the company. And if you don’t like the answers, simply look somewhere else.

Here are 5 questions you should always ask when you’re shopping for used sweeper:

1. Can you tell me about your company?
You want to find out:
• How long has the company been in business?
• How long have they been operating at their current location?
• And what makes them qualified to represent the current condition of a sweeper?

2. What kind of inspection have you done on the sweeper?
And, who performed it? Make sure that the sweeper you’re interested in has been properly inspected by a qualified person. Especially if this is the first time doing business with the company.

3. Has the truck been checked for liens or has it been reported stolen?
Make sure you get proof, in writing, that once you’ve completed your purchase that your equipment truly belongs to you. If you find out later, the sweeper truck has a bank lien or has been reported stolen; it doesn’t matter how much you paid for it, the sweeper is not yours.

4. Request a list of references from other contractors who have worked with the company? Unless the company has been around for a long time and is well known, getting a list of references is always a good idea. If the company is a good one, they will be more than happy to connect you with other happy customers.

5. What kind of guarantees or warranties do they offer?
Most used sweepers will be sold “as is.” However, some companies will provide parts and service warranties on certain sweepers. If that’s important to you, ask.

Deciding to buy used sweepers is a great way to maximize your investment. And, asking these questions will give you piece-of-mind that you are working with a company you can trust.
