With the cost of fuel rising, diesel engines are a good alternative to gasoline engines. They have a fuel efficiency of roughly 40% more than gas engines and as such, a good source of reliable power. However, the engine is big and heavy to offset the stress of high compression which makes this engine a bit more pricy compared to gasoline engines.

To keep your diesel engine running efficiently, always make sure to change your filters regularly.

Air Filters – Because the cooling system is so critical on diesel engines, it is important to keep your air filters clean and replace them regularly. If an engine overheats and is not caught on time, the engine could get damaged. Most trucks have some sort of early warning systems in their dash. Check this system regularly to see if replacement of air filters is needed.

Oil Filters – Oil filter selection is very important on diesel engines because of elements created when fuel is not burned completely. The filter used must meet or exceed the OEM filter recommended by the engine manufacturer. This will ensure that all corrosive particles are removed from the oil.

Fuel Filters – Change fuel filters as recommended by the engine manufacturer to prevent moisture build up. Some diesel engines use 2 types of fuel filters to control the presence of moisture in the engine. Some fuel tanks are also designed with one way breather vents for the moisture to escape. This vent should be checked occasionally if there is a suspicion that it is restricted.
